I MADE MY 1ST DEGREE. NOW WHAT?
|
So, I Made My 1st Degree... Now what happens?
Welcome, new Brother Knight. (Yes, we really do try to address each other as "Brother!") So you've made your 1st degree and have your 1st degree membership card; now what do you do next? What do you "have" to do? The simple answer is NOTHING, but as a charitable organization, we hope that you will want to get involved and do "something." So how do you get involved?
The best way is to attend regular council meetings. These are held at our council home every 2nd Wednesday of the month, starting at 7:30PM (but come early for pizza and fellowship, and remember to bring your membership card!) at the meeting, you will be welcomed by your new "brothers", and you will get a feel for what we do and the various on-going committees and events and special one-time projects that are happening.
For example, a brother might announce that he needs help setting up the tables and chairs for the kids K of C Christmas party... ? So come on down to the council hall next Saturday at 8:30AM.? If you are free and feel so moved, just show up! You never even have to raise your hand and promise to be there.
Other times you might want to take a more "formal" role and commit to some event as part of a team of brother knights. You might even have some special new project YOU think worthwhile; propose it to your new brothers and make it happen! And maybe you are busy with home life and can't spare time right now; that's OK, we are happy to have you just attend the meetings and stay informed.
Other ways to stay informed are by visiting our council's Web Site at http://www.kofc4442.org/home.html or the State web site at http://www.nhknights.org/ (Hint: You can get to the state web site and other K of C related sites from our own 4442 council web site.) Also, you will be getting our Council Newsletter mailed to your home. (You can see past issues of the Newsletter on our web site.)
By being an active member, by taking part in some of the projects we have, you will meet and create friendships with other Catholic men, your new "brothers". Many of our programs include children and spouses; your family is welcome to become part of the knights just as you are. Some members attend each monthly meeting, but because of health or age reasons, they can't volunteer for many projects; and some members really don't have time for monthly meetings, but they always "show up" at a project site to lend a hand. The bottom line is that it is up to you to decide how active you want to be. So, can I save a piece of pepperoni pizza for you at the next meeting?
Any questions, feel free to call me or your sponsor. Paul St.Amand, Membership Chairman 603-898-2421
